A 100kW/25kWh solar PV and storage hybrid system. The first and largest of its kind in Abuja as at the time it was completed in April of 2017. The project was commissioned by the then Minister of Power, Works and Housing.
House on the Rock (the Refuge), is one of the leading Christian organizations in northern Nigeria. In 2014 with the rising cost of electricity to power daily operations, the initiative to have an alternative, cost-effective solution was deliberated on by the Leadership of the organization. Clean energy solutions became the most sustainable, cost-effective, and viable option. This culminated in the signing of an EPC contract with Protergia Energy, a leading sustainable energy company and project developer for the development of a 100 KWp renewable energy source to power the daily operations of the organization.
The 100kWp combined with 303 Canadian solar monocrystalline panels became a reality in the church. This investment in House on the Rock will generate an average of about 146,904kWh of electricity per annum. To explain better, it will take 72,000 litres of diesel to generate the same amount of energy. Let's say a litre of diesel goes for N185.00. This means the church is now able to save N13 million annually.
